With last night's storms and all the rain that has been falling, I got to thinking about our faith and trust.  We talk about "trusting God" in times of scarcity.  In fact, in my first call, I had folks tell me they "borrowed money" to make their church pledge!  We trust that God will indeed provide, if not our "wants" at least our basic needs.  But what about "trusting God" in times of abundance??
We currently have more water than we need or want; do we pray for it to quit raining??  Are we trusting that God is still "in control"?  Often in times of abundance it's harder to see God at work.

We are quickly approaching the 4th of July holiday.  We'll sing "God Bless America" even as we are drowning in our blessings.  God "has blesssed" America.  We are the wealthiest nation on earth.  We claim to be Christian as well and enjoy the benefits of knowing who to thank and how to respond to those blessings.

Do we thank God with lives of service and sacrifice or are we killing ourselves with our gluttony??  Do we trust that God will continue to provide if we "give away" what He has given?  So many questions as we face abundance.
Let us hope and pray that as individuals, as congregations, as church, as nation, we can indeed rely on the premise:  "In God we trust!"

Peace,
