"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day till the last syllable of recorded time." That's really all I remember from a speech in one of Shakespeare's plays. Not sure why I even remember that except that as spring arrives and the weatherman keeps promising nicer weather and warmer temperatures "tomorrow," I am reminded of just how slowly time sometimes seems to pass. It seems to pass especially slowly when we are waiting for something special to happen.
To me, Lent seems to be a long season. It is a somber season. We focus on the reason Jesus had to come to die and it seems that the cross of Calvary isn't exactly a wonderful destination, looming there in the distance. I can understand why many folks skip the slow, sad journey to Calvary and just "show up" for the excitement and hype of Easter morning. I can understand, but I think they're missing out on something very important. Easter is so much more meaningful, so much more joyful, if one has made the long, agonizing trek to the cross.
We're approaching Holy Week. There's worship on Thursday and Friday, two days instead of one mid-week service. Yet, we're getting closer. Please, join us! Walk with us! Feel the slow, deliberate pace. Experience the hesitation, the injustice, the commitment. Easter will take on new meaning when you've gone through the cross to get there.
Peace,
Pastor Carol
