'Tis the season for colds, flu and influenza.  Sometimes the sanctuary sounds like a hospital ward during morning worship!  We all at one time or other fall victim to illness.  We all have favorite remedies that have worked for us that we are excited to share with others.

 

Sunday morning at Metigoshe we will spend some time discussing the causes and effects of another common ailment "Affluenza."  While there may not be an actual dictionary definition of this malady, most of us know its symptoms:  we have so much we feel bloated and bogged down by our stuff, we see or hear of someone else's new stuff, we decide we need more stuff to "keep up" or "stay happy."  There you have it:  Affluenza! 

 

And, the sad thing is,  it is an illness that was intentionally introduced into our society at a critical time and, undoubtedly, with the best of intentions.  But, wow, how out of control it has gotten!  Unfortunately, most of us fall victim to this illness at one time or another and many of us have a chronic condition.

There is no other topic in scriptures that Jesus addresses more than money.  It has lead many astray and is one of the major tools Satan uses to keep us at a distance in our relationship to God and to one another. 

 

Please join us on Sunday as we look at the roots of "Affluenza" in our society, as we discuss some of the problems that this insidious disease creates, and share some ways we can innoculate ourselves against its devastating effects in our lives and the life of our nation.
