Sunday will be the celebration of the Transfiguration, that time when Jesus took three of His disciples and went up a mountain to pray. While they were there Jesus was "transfigured," changed before their eyes and the glory of God shown forth from Him. God's voice verified Jesus' identity and admonished the disciples to "listen to Him." A very important instruction, as Jesus was just heading to Jerusalem and all the horrors that final trip to Calvary would bring.
We will soon be entering the Lenten season, which is our focus on God's incredible love coming to us in the very midst of our sinfulness.
As we prepare, once again, to ponder Jesus' incredible gift in giving up His power and glory to become one of us and die in our place, that we might be "reborn" as children of God and as we contemplate His working in our lives to "create right spirits within us," I can't help but think of an old favorite hymn of mine: "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling." It's something to think about as we journey into this penitential season.
Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heav'n to earth come down! Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, All Thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus, Thou art all compassion, Pure, unbounded love Thou art; Visit us with Thy salvation, Enter ev'ry trembling heart.
Breathe, oh, breathe Thy loving Spirit Into ev'ry troubled breast; Let us all in Thee inherit; Let us find Thy promised rest. Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its beginning, Set our hearts at liberty.
Finish then Thy new creation, Pure and spotless let us be; Let us see Thy great salvation Perfectly restored in Thee! Changed from glory into glory, Till in heav'n we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before Thee, Lost in wonder, love, and praise!
Just think of such incredible love at work in our lives each and every day!!
Thanks be to God!
