If you have children your busy life just got a whole lot busier with the start of school. Add to the "regular routine" all the after school activities and sporting events and "staying sane" takes on a whole new meaning. It is tempting to just "run faster" in an effort to just stay "on top of" everything and maybe, if we're lucky, to occasionally be "ahead of the game." Been there, done that!! But guess what suffers when we operate that way? We do!!
We're not made for constant motion and non-renewal of our energies. Dare I suggest you take just a moment to STOP. Think about what you're doing and where you're going and what would happen if you didn't. Our scripture lessons from Sunday challenged us to stop and think about "life" and the source of it. Stop and think about all that the Lord has provided and done for you in your life. Then, respond accordingly: "serve the Lord."
What might that look like? Well, odds are it would include worship (at least weekly), prayer and scripture reading (at least daily), considering our neighbor's "needs" in light of our ever increasing "wants," and remembering that "family time" includes more than "just us" on the way to another event.
Is it easy to change our habits, of course not.
Does it make a difference in quality, as well as quantity, of life if our priorities are more "in line" with who we are as "children of God?" You bet it does. Life will still be busy, but with a shift in focus there will be a peace in knowing that we are anchored in the source of life; there will be the promised time of rest and renewal that we will look forward to and appreciate; there will be opportunities for Christian fellowship, encouragement, and consolation.
In the midst of your "busy life" don't forget the One who is the source of life and has granted to you an abundant life. Can you see it??
Peace,
Pastor Carol
