Today is October 1st; so where did September go?? As I look at October's calendar and see the multitude of things that are awaiting, I know that this month will also "fly by." I can only guess that your schedules are just as full, just as hectic, just as demanding as mine. Is this really the way life is intended to be? Is being busy really what life is about?? I often wonder at the end of a day what I have accomplished; what difference have I made in someone else's life; did I make wise use of the gift of today, which I will never get to use again. It can be a sobering, humbling thought as we become so consumed with our busyness and self-importance.
I can't help but be reminded of the words to an old, old hymn that help us to focus on what IS important and return some semblence of order and peace to our days and our lives. Maybe "slowing down" to re-focus on who and whose we are is key to living a life of true meaning and worth. That old hymn is "Take Time to Be Holy;" these are the words:
Take time to be holy, Speak often with God; Find rest in Him always, And feed on His Word. Make friends of God's children, Help those who are weak, Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, The world rushes on; Much time spend in secret With Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, Like Him Thou shalt be; Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy, Let Him be thy guide, And run not before Him, Whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow, Still follow thy Lord, And looking to Jesus, Still trust in His word.
Yes, there are many things that must be done. Yes, we are children of God and God will grant us the wisdom to which ones they are. Let us seek His guidance today and everyday that we might know what true life is all about.
Peace,
Pastor Carol
