Hope you made it to the Sunday School Christmas program on Sunday afternoon; it was a real treat!  Not perfect, mind you, but a real treat.  After weeks of practice, Joseph didn't want to get married, Mary "stood him up anyway," and it didn't make any sense for the donkey to go to the stable unridden.  What a memorable beginning!  But then, I guess the original script had a pretty memorable cast of characters as well.  Their plans certainly didn't come off as they had envisioned, but God was at work and His plan was carried out.

Our play went on to depict Jesus' life of miracles:  turning water to wine, healing and teaching.  It included His betrayal, crucifixion and resurrection.  Thanks to Lisa, Brian, and all who assisted with this year's program:  "The Reason."

We certainly understand, and even enjoy, the little problems that arise when a program takes place.  We are much less understanding and entertained when life itself doesn't go as we think it should.  I'm not sure why.  God didn't come into the midst of a "perfect world;"  that's why He had to come!!

And the world hasn't gotten any more perfect since He's been here.  The good news for us is that He is with us in the "midst of the mess" and has promised that, eventually, all will be made perfect again.  His promise is as much for right now as it is for the future.  Knowing Him means that we can go through life seeing His hand at work in whatever comes our way, sensing His presence and peace, even as He moves us outside our comfort zones and challenges us to grow and mature into the loving, serving, forgiving example of His Son.

Christmas is almost here; are you ready??  I don't mean is the baking done, the gifts mailed, the house decorated, the meals planned.  I mean are you ready to receive the greatest gift of all:  the gift of the Christ, God with us?  His gift "keeps on giving" as we grow and mature in faith and I guarantee that your life will never be the same again!

Get ready; He's on His way!!

Peace,
