This is a day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Today was "quilting day" at Metigoshe Lutheran. There is quite a group of both men and women who gather each Monday from January through March to make quilts for both missions and local use. It is a wonderful ministry of outreach as well as good stewardship of used materials.
Sometimes we forget that stewardship is about the use of our time and our possessions, even the worn out ones, and not just about what we do with our money. Stewardship is about all of life in response to God's good blessings. We needn't wait for grand and glorious things to be good stewards of our time, talent, energy and treasure. Our quilters are good stewards in their simple gathering to take what others have discarded and turn it into items that are well-used and needed by others. In about six hours a week this group is about the Lord's work and seems to have a lot of fun and fellowship in the process. It's a win-win situation for all involved.
Stop and think about the time and energy and possessions with which you have been gifted. How are you using them? What are you doing with what is of no longer value to you? It could be of much value to someone else.
Part of being a Christian, I think, is stopping to decide how we use all that we have, whether a lot or a little. "All that we have is Thine, alone, a trust, O Lord, from Thee." There is nothing wrong in having a lot and nothing inherently good in having little. The bottom line is what we do with what we have. May we grow in our wisdom, our understanding, and our steward's response to the blessings of God.
Peace,
Pastor Carol
